ACBF frosh boys tourney tips off
today
For the
first time, the Ashtabula County Basketball Foundation will host a
tournament for freshman boys teams.
The eight-team tournament will
run from today through Thursday at two of the area's brand-new
gymnasiums at Jefferson and Harvey high schools. Four Ashtabula
County teams, three Lake County squads and a Cuyahoga County team
will participate.
The tournament will be run on a double-elimination format, which
guarantees each team at least two games. Teams reaching the
tournament's championship and consolation finals will play three
games.
Admission fee is $3 for adults and $2 for senior citizens and
students. No passes will be honored for the tournament, which will
serve as a fundraiser for the ACBF.
Two games will be played today at Jefferson. Shaker Heights and
Lakeside will meet in the tournament opener at 5:30 p.m., followed
by Conneaut against Jefferson at 6:30 p.m.
Action will shift to Harvey for the games Tuesday. Perry will play
Riverside at 4:30 p.m., followed by Geneva against Harvey at 5:45
p.m.
All semifinal action in the championship and consolation brackets
will be played Wednesday at Jefferson. The losers of the games
between Jefferson and Conneaut and Geneva and Harvey will play at
4:30 p.m., as well as the losers of the games between Lakeside and
Shaker Heights and Riverside and Perry.
The winners of the Conneaut-Jefferson and Geneva-Harvey games will
play in the upper-bracket winners'-bracket semifinal at 5:30 p.m.
The winners of the Lakeside-Shaker Heights and Perry-Riverside games
will play in the lower-bracket winners'-bracket semifinal at 6:45
p.m.
The championship and consolation finals will be played Thursday at
Jefferson. The consolation final is set for 4:30 p.m., while the
championship final will be played at 7 p.m.
